Since I was a kid, I loved to draw, colour, and make up stories. It wasn't until high school I found my passion for creating and designing. It was during this time I discovered I had potential.
Long story short, I became a Social Worker.
As high school ended, things took a turn and I was dissuaded from pursuing my calling and instead, "encouraged" (forced) to study something that I could "make a living" out of...as a nurse. Ugh. I cannot emphasize it enough: I hated every moment of my nursing studies and became a Social Worker instead.
It was my career as a Social Worker that fulfilled my drive to help others--without doing the medical part. I loved it so much, I decided to pursue a Master's Degree and devoted and over a decade of my life working with children, schools, and communities.
But I didn't want to live the rest of my life not knowing if I could've been a Designer.
On my 30th birthday, I mustered up the courage to go for it. I pressed "pause" on my career and registered as a student with The Art Institute of Pittsburgh (Online Division) and completed my last and final degree in Graphic Design.
After I graduated, I found myself lost but searching for "the one" (in terms of job) and what exactly was the best fit for me. It wasn't until a friend/colleague asked, "You went to Graphic Design school? Do you think you can design a website for me," that I gave website design any thought. Curious and eager to work, I replied, "Sure. I'll try." And here I am, a few years later finally finding my niche working with small businesses and individuals. I'm learning so much and...I've loved every minute of it!
I think I found my happy medium now.
And I know it sounds a little weird, being a Social Worker really complements my "designer" side (and vice versa) I feel like those skills help me tune into what my clients really need.
These days, I split my time being both. I guess you could say that I'm a thoughtful blend of 90% Designer + Blogger and 10% (Social Worker) Consultant. In between, you'll find me reading books, watching movies, day dreaming about traveling the globe again, and spending time with beloved husband and dogs.
I'm grateful I get to design my life around what I love to do. I'm happy to be here!
